F1 is all set to take another big innovational leap in the coming 2022 season. A new introduction in the form of an e-Gun will revolutionize the pit stop experience in the sport. Italian motorsport manufacturing company Dino Paoli is studying the tool which can reduce the overall burden on the mechanics working in the pit lane.

Mercedes F1 team made the first tests in the last race in Abu Dhabi with a cordless experimental gun that we saw at Yas Marina. However, it is still to be used in its fullest capacity. There is an all-around attempt to make the sport sustainable in the longer run. The F1 paddock travels across continents through a calendar year and induces huge labor and mechanical costs.
The sport is more fast-paced than ever with the upcoming 2022 season having a 23-race calendar. However, the quest to find the right balance between sustainable practices in the sport remains.

Attempts are being made to ease the whole taxing process. The 2022 season is coming with major changes in the F1 car. The tire size has increased considerably to 18 inches from the current 13 inches. The process of changing 18-inch rubbers in a short time can be a hard nut to crack. However, the innovation will surely help with the same.
Notably, the electric-powered screwdrivers are not limited to tire changes but also help reduce the machinery used in the pitlane. The currently used machinery includes four pneumatic screwdrivers complete with cylinders and the carbon and titanium castle. The e-Gun will be a logistically viable alternative to this.

Moreover, the transportation of these burdensome pieces of equipment can be avoided with this remarkable addition in the paddock. The tool also gives much scope for customization. There will be great simplification because there will be no need for an inverter; the electric control will allow the immediate inversion of the rotation.

Mercedes have already tried the e-Gun in Abu Dhabi. It won’t be surprising if we soon see other teams tune this tool in their system.
