Muskegon County's upcoming recycling event provides an opportunity for Muskegon County residents to get rid of scrap tires, hazardous waste and electronics.THE BAY CITY TIMES

MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – Got old tires, pesticides, TVs and the like sitting around? Your chance to safely get rid of them is coming up in Muskegon County.

The biannual Muskegon County Recycling Event provides an opportunity for Muskegon County residents to get rid of scrap tires, hazardous waste and electronics.

This spring, the event will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23 at 1350 E. Keating Avenue in Muskegon, which is the city of Muskegon’s Department of Public Works.

The events are hosted by Muskegon County’s Sustainability Office. Lines can get long as hundreds of people have dropped off items in the past. Those who are in line as of 1 p.m. will be served.

The event is for Muskegon County residents only – no business waste will be accepted.

Unlike earlier events, no document shredding will be provided.

The household recycling events are the fourth Saturday in April and third Saturday in October each year.

Here are guidelines for what will be accepted on April 23:

-Car and truck tires only

-Limit 10 tires per household, with or without rims

-Computers and accessories. These include laptops and tablets, servers, keyboards, mice, speakers, hard drives, wires and cables, internet cards, hubs, switches and optical drives. Not accepted are CRT computer monitors.

-Flat-screen TVs, including LCD, LED and plasma. CRT TV’s will be accepted, but projection TVs will not.

-DVD players, VCRs, game systems and handheld devices

-Cell phones, two-way radios, pagers and PDAs

-Office equipment, including fax machines, photocopiers, printers, scanners, telephones, typewriters and adding machines.

-Aerosol cans with material inside. No empty cans accepted.

-Diesel, gasoline, oil and petroleum products

-Oil based paint. Latex paint not accepted.

Other items may be accepted with prior approval.
