Gov. Ron DeSantis continues to play down any potential conflict with former President Donald Trump.

During a weekend appearance on the Glenn Beck Program, DeSantis was asked about the “working relationship” between him and the former President, and the Governor soon enough pivoted to discussing short-term goals, including down-ballot races.

“We’re excited about the opportunities in Florida,” DeSantis told Beck.

“We’re not only doing my election, which is very important. I’m helping our legislative candidates. We may have a supermajority in the Florida Legislature, veto-proof after this election,” DeSantis said. “Veto-proof” here presumably means Republicans could override the veto of a Democratic Governor in the event one was elected.

The Governor went farther down the ballot still, highlighting his involvement in School Board races.

“I’ve also endorsed now 30 School Board candidates,” DeSantis said.

“A lot of people used to forget about these races. They’re nonpartisan races. But the union will support usually a liberal activist. We have to have candidates who support our values. We’ve not only endorsed. We’ve put in a lot of money to help them get across the finish line,” DeSantis said.

Back in June, the Governor rolled out his DeSantis Education Agenda, subtitled “Putting Parents First, Protecting Parents’ Rights,” described as “a policy agenda that focuses on student success, parental rights and curriculum transparency.”

That came after he signed legislation that puts term limits on School Board members. But DeSantis lamented the three terms required as one too many, and criticized School Boards and the White House for not listening to parents. Before that, the Governor vowed to turn his “political apparatus” against Republican School Board candidates who oppose his educational reforms.

DeSantis downplayed the Trump conflict in comments to Beck, again saying that was a media creation.

“The media, they know the Democrats are going to have a rough ’22, and so they want to try to figure out ways to trip the Republicans up. So just because I’ve become well-known now as Governor, they’re trying to do that,” DeSantis told Beck. “What I’m focused on now is beating the Left.”

This jibes with previous comments where DeSantis toyed with what he has called a “media obsession” with his running for the White House.

“Everyone wants to talk about me in Florida,” DeSantis crowed in July. “Like, I’m just sitting here, little ol’ me, doing my job!”

Or in any way helping with the increases in property insurance? Nope- they had the chance to do both of those and failed miserably. No need to think anymore. Free speech, Nope, not if you are a business, or even an elected prosecutor. If the Republican legislative supermajority wants to turn Florida into an authoritarian regime, I guess they are well on the way. Vote Blue and save what’s left of freedom in Florida.

These poor folks remind me of the movie “The African Queen”: inarticulate people in a sputtering boat stuck in the weeds waiting for the intervention of a superior power. And they say art is no longer relevant.

It is interesting that the governor rolled out his education agenda in June 2022 that focuses on “student success, parental rights, and curriculum transparency. No matter who sat in the governor’s mansion Florida ALWAYS focused on “student success, parental rights and curriculum transparency! This is NOT a new focus for the people of Florida! Parents were asked and had the opportunity to serve on curriculum committees, School Advisory Councils, report card committees, etc. In many cases principals and district level administrators had to “beg” parents to serve. Additionally, administrators, teachers and parents have always worked tirelessly to ensure that ALL students are successful. When everyone is working together to focus on student success, it is NOT a political tool but a win-win for the students of Florida. Keep the political games out of the Florida educational system.

I was there,. I knew what it was like to volunteer my time in these education-related groups where an elite who possess “the appropriate degrees” feel themselves empowered to minimize the concerns of the parents and their desires; where union-protected educators could exercise eminent domain over the future of children (until recently where was an organization that would go to court on behalf of parents in these disputes?). I had a spouse who worked in the system and told about how administrators would spend much of their day doling out psycho-effective drugs so that the students, many of whom were drug babies now in their early grades, would not be disciplinary problems to the teachers. I have seen cultural staples of my upbringing mindlessly derided by a system of “woke” pressure groups and educational consultants (try Mark Twain, for one), and children led down a bath of sheer arithmetical idiocy until you can walk up to a cashier in her 20s these days and the poor thing can’t make change without referring to a machine–which is just the way the leadership of this country wants it–i.e. people unable to count!) The public education system in America has been an abject failure for most of my life time –not always, there are students who have overcome the burdens of enforced mediocrity–and it is time not that it be changed but that if be ended. Unfortunately, truly tearing the system down and building it new is simply too big, too time consuming and too politically fraught a job. So responsible adults have to do all that they can–shout and complain in the school board meeting rooms, and when their comments are barred from there, shout and complain from the streets.

How many courses do you teach? What credentials do you have that allow you to think that you’re some kind of expert?

What exactly have you ever accomplished in life besides whining about what is wrong?

Just so folks don’t think Ron’s pontifications are factual, let me clarify. I am an actual public school educator, who is not a “union” member(most of my colleagues are not) who raised children and grandchildren in the Florida system and all of them can count. Any medications given to children in school come from parents who often cant handle their own children’s behaviors. Administrators and parents cant give our medications that parents have not provided. And remember, if the child is deemed ADHD, ODD, Bipolar or any other of the myriad of ESE labels, parents who qualify can get an SSI check for their disabled child. Sadly, children are drugged for reasons other than making life easier for teachers, I can assure you. Parents are always welcome to speak and are heard, recorded and their concerns are noted and often acted upon. Just because a particular parent has an issue with a book or curriculum, they don’t get to set the rules for everyone else. You can always opt out- but that means the parent has to pay attention

In states with bans ALL women (& girls old enough to become pregnant), are being denied medications such as Methotrexate, which is used for conditions like RA , juvenile arthritis, and cancer. Women are being sent away right at the pharmacy counter! Government surveillance has increased in states with bans, with Facebook giving law enforcement access to people’s private messages. Police are then seizing phones and laptops as evidence.

This is Ron’s plan for Florida, and for the US once he pushes Trump out of the way. Vote Blue to protect healthcare and privacy!
